SUMMARY: The City of Ingleside is currently accepting applications for a Police Detective/Evidence Management Technician position. Applicants must be currently licensed through TCOLE as a Texas Peace Officer. Required experience and training include a High school graduation, or its equivalent, graduation from a recognized police academy and a minimum of Basic Peace Officer’s License, plus a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a law enforcement officer. Previous experience as an investigator or evidence technician is preferred.
The Officer will protect the city’s residents and property and enforces laws and ordinances. Duties include assisting or backing up patrol officers as needed or requested, responds to emergencies. Should have experience with the dynamics of a criminal investigation along with the ability to multitask and function effectively within the organization. Should have a minimum of patrol level criminal investigative and/or evidence room management experience. Conducts criminal investigations including crime scene investigations, and photographing, collection and preservation of evidence; investigates various offenses, including crimes against persons and property, and crimes relating to narcotics and vice; Interviews witnesses, complainants and suspects, and takes written statements; Maintains on-call status as assigned;
Additionally, organize and manage evidence, records, locations, appropriate storage techniques and carry out submissions for analysis, apply for judicially approved evidence destruction or disposition, maintain chain of custody, and document evidence dispositions; Submit evidence to the Texas department of Public safety for analysis;
This position requires that the employee must be physically able to perform the essential duties discussed above. Examples of required physical abilities include, but are not limited to: Running; Firing a weapon; Driving at high speeds; Physically restraining a person; Using a baton;
Candidates must be able to pass a background investigation, firearms qualifications, and will be required to submit to physical and psychological testing.
