Reports To: Heavy Equipment Specialist/Foreman or Street & Drainage Superintendent
Summary of Position:
Operates light equipment in the maintenance and repair of city street, drainage, water and wastewater systems.
- Reports to: Heavy Equipment Specialist/Foreman or Street & Drainage Superintendent.
- Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
- Other: Has contact with other city employees and occasionally with the general public.
Assists with the maintenance of streets, sidewalks, gutters, and curbs by using overlays, cement, reinforcing steel, asphalt, sand, gravel, and patching compounds;
Installs, repairs, and maintains drainage pipes, catch basins, and related components;
Operates backhoe, dump trucks, asphalt trucks, rollers, air hammers, shovels, mower, pick, and hand tools;
Sets up barricades at work sites to warn traffic of hazardous areas;
Maintains, plants, and/or trims grass, trees, and brush, using chainsaw and/or other light equipment;
Loads, transports, and unloads necessary materials for assigned projects;
Performs minor repairs on equipment;
Collects brush, garbage, and debris and loads onto truck;
Assists with concrete application and form building for same;
Assists other personnel painting street signs, curbs, and stripes on roads.
Drives a truck if required;
Works overtime as necessary; and
Maintains on-call status as assigned.

Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds and push/pull/drag up to one hundred (100) pounds of material; work in wet and muddy areas and trenches to a depth of twenty-five (25) feet; climb elevated structures to a height of fifty (50) feet; walk, climb, kneel, squat, stoop, bend and twist for extended periods of time; walk long distances while reading meters; work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold and/or wet weather.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: methods, practices, material and equipment used in street and drainage system maintenance; operation of light equipment and machinery; safety procedures; and use and care of tools and specialized equipment.
understand and carry out written and oral instructions; learn to operate standard maintenance equipment; establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers; outdoors and maintain a Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities and a good driving record.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
High school graduation, or its equivalent, and one year o experience in the maintenance of roads, streets, and/or drainage systems involving a wide variety of methods and equipment, concrete and asphalt work, backhoe, rollers and specialized trucks;
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
A valid Texas driver’s license;
