Schedule: 7 days a week¬†8am-7pm (Multiple shifts), evenings and weekends
Reports To:¬ Library Director
Job Summary:¬† Under general direction, performs a variety of complex paraprofessional duties required for the efficient operation of library services to the general public.¬† Performs related library work as required.
Essential Job Functions:¬† Responsible for the general maintenance of the work area; checks materials in and out; enters additions and changes. ¬†Answers phone providing patrons with circulation information.¬† Notifies patrons of reserves, overdue and fines; files patron application materials.¬† Collects fines and fees.¬† Reads library shelves to insure materials are correctly shelved.¬† Takes application for library cards; inspects returned materials for damage.¬† Searches for lost or misplaced materials; repairs damaged materials.¬† ¬†Empties books returns and sorts materials onto carts for shelving.¬† Assists Director and Assistant Librarian with special projects, fund raising or programs when needed.¬† Lifts and carries materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.¬† Pushes and pulls book carts up to 100 pounds.¬† Fine motor skills required for inputting information into computerized system.¬† Weekend and evening hours required.
Other Job Functions:¬† Operates photocopier, cash register; basic computer skills, scanner, laminating, running a projector. ¬†Any other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge:¬ Knowledge of general library operations, library reference system, basic computer operation, keyboarding and the Dewey Decimal System.
Skills and Abilities:¬† Excellent reading and comprehension skills required for reference work.¬† Good communication skills and writing ability to provide reference services and take patron requests for inter library loans, materials and assistance in locating information and materials.
Must work well with adults and children; perform simple mathematical computations; understand and follow oral and written instructions; speak and write effectively; type accurately; establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons and fellow employees.¬† Ability to reach, lift and stand. ¬†Ability to learn new skills.
Experience and Training:
High school graduation or its equivalent and two years of clerical experience.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.¬† Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
